Daniela Bigott, MS, LMFT
At Thrive Counseling, we often meet clients who say, “I just wish I could be more confident.” Many picture confidence as something loud or effortless — the person who walks into a room and immediately commands attention. But real confidence is quieter, deeper, and more personal. It isn’t about being perfect or fearless; it’s about learning to trust yourself enough to show up as you are.
Confidence grows from small choices that say, “I’m showing up for me.”
Confidence Is Built, Not Born
Confident people aren’t born that way. They build it over time, through practice and patience. Each time you speak up, take a risk, or recover from a setback, you’re strengthening that trust in yourself.
Confidence isn’t about never falling. It’s about knowing you can get back up. Every small act of courage, whether it’s setting a boundary, trying something new, or saying no, is a quiet way of saying “I believe in me”.
Choosing Yourself Isn’t Selfish
Many people feel guilty for putting themselves first. But choosing yourself doesn’t mean you don’t care about others. It means you value your needs, too.
When you constantly ignore your limits, it leads to burnout and resentment. Choosing yourself helps you stay grounded and balanced, and that benefits everyone around you.
Bet on Yourself
Confidence doesn’t come from waiting until you feel ready. It comes from action. Each time you take a step forward, even if it’s small, you prove to yourself that you can handle life’s challenges.
You don’t need to have it all figured out to believe in yourself. Just start choosing you, one moment at a time.
Redefining Confidence
Confidence isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s calm and quiet. It’s knowing who you are and being okay with it. It’s giving yourself grace when things don’t go as planned, and trusting that you can find your way forward.
A few ways to start building confidence today:
- Celebrate small wins.
- Speak kindly to yourself.
- Take risks that reflect your values.
- Practice, don’t chase perfection.
If you’re struggling to trust yourself or find your voice, you’re not alone.
At Thrive Counseling, we believe that confidence begins with self-compassion and grows with support. You are always worth choosing.
