Spreading Love and Kindness This December

Mental Health, Mindset, Personal Growth, Relationships, Self-Care

This month is all about spreading kindness in ways that feel real, doable, and meaningful.

Daniela Bigott, MS, LMFT

At Thrive Counseling, we clients often share that they want the holidays to feel meaningful but don’t always know how to create that feeling. December can be busy, overwhelming, and emotional, but it can also be a time to reconnect with what really matters. The heart of the season is not perfection. It is small moments of warmth, connection, and genuine kindness.
Kindness Starts Small

Kindness doesn’t need to be big to matter.
A smile.
A thank you.
A held door.

These tiny moments can shift the tone of someone’s entire day. Small acts of care remind us that connection still exists, even in a fast and stressful season.
Presence Is a Gift Too

Gifts can be meaningful, but presence is powerful. Many people remember how you made them feel far more than what you handed them.

This season, presence can look like:
• Listening without rushing
• Checking in on someone who’s been quiet
• Spending time without distractions

Love often shows up in our attention, not just in our presents.
Be Kind to Yourself Too

A lot of people feel stretched thin in December. Between schedules, traditions, expectations, and emotional weight, the month can be exhausting. That’s why self-kindness matters just as much as kindness toward others.

Self-kindness can be:
• Taking rest seriously
• Saying no when something is too much
• Releasing pressure to make everything perfect

Giving yourself grace allows you to move through the season with more peace and less burnout.
Kindness Creates a Ripple Effect

One small act often leads to another. A compliment inspires more warmth. A moment of patience can change the mood in a room. A thoughtful gesture can soften someone’s entire day.
Kindness spreads quietly but powerfully. When we choose it, we help create little pockets of calm and connection around us.

A Few Ways to Spread Love and Kindness This Month
  • Offer one small act of kindness each day.
  • Slow down long enough to truly notice people.
  • Give someone your full, undistracted attention.
  •  Practice self-kindness when you feel overwhelmed.
  • Share a compliment or reach out to someone who’s been on your mind.
If you’re feeling disconnected, tired, or unsure how to find balance this season, you’re not alone.

At Thrive Counseling, believe that kindness begins with compassion and support.
